6 Ways to Create High Quality Product Photos

Selling your product online is more than just a simple product photo on a white background. Bring your product to life with a variety of images and videos to capture your audience’s attention and convert them to customers.

Your product isn’t the reason why it isn’t selling, it’s your imagery and strategy!

Here are a few tips to get started creating better photos of your product:

Invest in quality surfaces and backdrops. My go-to is Replica Surfaces. They’re beautiful, look realistic in photos and videos, and sturdy so they hold up over time. I have at least 10 of them in a variety of colors and textures and they really wow my product photography clients! Play with different textures. Think about how you want your customers to feel when they see your product. Choose textures that give them that feeling!

Shoot near a window. Natural light is the most inexpensive lighting you can find! And it helps create beautiful photos. Play with shadows if you’d like or shoot light and airy. Be sure to turn off all overhead lights and lamps to avoid warm or unflattering lighting. Open all shades. and curtains to let the max amount of light into the space where you’re shooting.

Or invest in artificial lighting. If you want to be able to create product photos anytime of day, control the lighting or even play with different types of lighting, invest in a ring light, video light or soft boxes.

Edit your photos. Increasing the contrast can instantly elevate your images. I use Lightroom Classic and mobile to edit my photos. It’s user-friendly and can easily take your product photos from amateur to pro.

Incorporate props that tell the story of your brand. Are your customers working women? Incorporate keyboards, planners, pens, tech and props they likely use.

Shoot different angles for variety. Flatlays are great, but shoot eye level, above you, below you. Find inspo to help you think outside the box.
