Video has taken social media by storm. With the growth of Reels, TikTok and YouTube becoming even more popular, adding video to your content strategy is a must.

Yes, I’m a photographer recommending video!

Although I’ve always prioritized behind the scenes videos during client shoots, they have asked me to create more short form videos during their sessions.

You need video in your marketing, but it doesn’t have to be overwhelming. Here are just a few videos you can easily create with your phone and tripod or with a photographer to use again and again in your marketing:

  1. Writing in a notebook, planner or branded document (ie. a printed freebie).

Make the focus of the video your hand holding the pen and writing. You can edit it slowed down or sped up like a time lapse. Use this to share tips on planning something.

2. Writing on sticky notes or a whiteboard or pinning to a moodboard on the wall

Shoot over your shoulder and add some movement if you can to make the video more engaging. Again, you can slow it down or speed it up in editing. Use this video to share tips on creating something or to explain the process of something.

3. Typing on a computer keyboard

You can shoot this video so many different ways: focusing on your hands from the front view, side view, above as an aerial view or over your shoulder. Slowed down or sped up. Use this type of video for anything really: inspirational quotes, announcements, or educational tips.

4. Texting or typing on a phone

Similar to typing on a keyboard, you can shoot many different angles: front view, side view, aerial view and over the shoulder. I like to get shots of clients taking a photo or video of something to show the creative process. Edit it slowed down or sped up or leave it in real time. Use these videos for communication-themed content or to share social media tips.

My favorite free apps for video editing are inShot and iMovie. They have really nice features such as speed, filters and adding text, which is perfect for social media content. If you want more functionality and professional editing, try Adobe Premiere Pro (there is a free trial option).

Which video are you excited to create for your business?!
