10 IG Stories Ideas for Photographers

We’ve been hearing Instagram Stories is where it’s at to connect with your audience on a deeper level. You can boost engagement with potential clients, and build your personal brand by consistently sharing content in stories that they want to see.

After studying my analaytics, these are the stories that get the most reach, stories replies and overall engagement:

Shoot Locations

Potential clients love to see location ideas for their own shoot. Give them a tour of The space wherr you’re shootingand add a poll to see who likes the space or would be interested in shooting there.

Do some location scouting in locations where you haven’t shot at yet, and share in stories to offer more ideas. Create a running list of ideas.

New purchases

Share a new purchase that has increased your productivity, boosted your mental health or self-care or improved your look. share affiliate links so your followers can shop the product and you’ll get a small commission at no addl cost to them.

This is a great way to share common interests, and potentially start conversation in the dms.

Hair styling

Every time i share about a new hair color or style, i get the most stories interactions! Shoutout your fave hairstylist, as they could be the perfect go-to for your clients. Share hair styling tips and products you’re loving to help them look their best for a shoot.

Hair is another conversation starter to relate to and connect with potential clients.

Sneek peeks

Share sneek peeks from recent client shoots to show your work! It gives potential clients an idea of what their photos can look like, and how a certain location looks in photos and videos.

Tag the client and location for potential resharing and to increase your reach.

You can create a collage in canva or scroll your photo gallery site.

Relatable quotes

Add humor to your personal brand with funny and relatable quotes in stories. It doesn’t have to be business-related. add your own commentary or just reshare.

Laugh about it in the dms with folks who reply. The goal with stories is to start conversations, even if it doesn’t have to do with booking you.

BTS

this is the #1 type of content you should share in stories, in mg opinion. It’s the best way to show your process, how you interact with clients, the locations you like to shoot in, and your overall client Experience.

share as many details during the shoot as you can. Setup your phone on a tripod, and record timelapses, real time videos and boomerangs.

Outfit ideas

One of the biggest challenges clients have is choosing and putting outfits together. Share ideas with your own wardrobe and tag the brands you like to shop to give them ideas.

Tag the brand in a photo or video of you wearing a stylish outfit, and create an affiliate link for them to shop the look.

You don’t have to be a stylist to share styling tips!
