Instagram Reels Ideas for Brand Photographers

The secret to staying consistent with posting content on social media, is repurposing top-performing content. Knowing the type of content your audience engages with the most will help grow your following and attract your ideal clients. Of course, going viral isn’t everything, especially as a brand photographer. The ultimate goal is to attract clients who want to book your services locally. But, increasing your reach will increase your chance of local clients seeing your posts, and following you or inquiring.

I always use local hashtags on my posts, specifically hashtags that my ideal clients will search for on Instagram. Some of my go-tos are #tampaphotographer #clearwaterphotographer #stpetephotographer. You can do this with your local city and “photographer”. If you’re willing to travel or want to reach folks in your state, you can always do #[yourstate]photographer.

Knowing what your audience engages with the most can increase your reach, and drive conversions. As brand photographers, the goal is to convert Instagram followers to clients! And Reels is one of the best ways to do that in 2022.

So, here are some of my most engaged Reels to help you create a content strategy for your brand photography business:

When I’m planning content for the month, I like to create with fresh ideas, especially since social media is constantly changing. But, I also incorporate top performing content from 6-12 months ago, that is still relevant.

Reel: Behind the scenes, final photos and video clip. Caption was about what’s included in my brand photography package.

Reel: Behind the scenes of me posing clients during a mini session day, and then the final photos. Caption was about a recap of the day, short and sweet.

Reel: Behind the scenes of a brand shoot and the final photos. Added thought leadership text overlay about strategy. Caption was about why strategy before a brand shoot is important.

Reel: Relatable video of me speaking to self-doubt and how to overcome it. Caption was announcing that my course and coaching for photographers was open, and what’s included.

Reel: Behind the scenes of a shoot with my husband and I for our real estate business, with the final photos. The caption was an announcement that I joined my husband in our business together. Although this isn’t totally related to my photography business, announcements typically perform well, especially with this format.

Reel: A video of a candle burning with fall decor around it. Included overlay of a “tweet” of me sharing now is the time to start planning holiday content. Caption is promoting my content strategy service, and who it’s best for.

Reel: Talking to camera intro, then showing the screen tutorial on what to do as soon as client receives their new brand photos, with voiceover. Caption further explains this.

Reel: Timelapse video of me building a t-shirt and jeans outfit. Focuses on details and then the full outfit at the end. Caption explains how you can take a simple outfit and make it more fun for a brand shoot. Wardrobe ideas typically perform well.

Reel: Lipsyncing to a holiday song with text overlay about the frustrations of having a significant other take your brand photos. Caption is about hiring me as their brand photographer for the new year.

To increase engagement in your Reels, share some type of behind the scenes with the final photos to follow. This format gives potential clients a glimpse of what it’s like to work with you, and highlights your current clients.

Relatable Reels with lipsyncing around confidence also perform well. Brainstorm some of your potential clients’ pain points, and how your service solves those problems.

Choosing wardrobe is one of the biggest challenges clients have while prepping for their shoot. Put their mind at ease with simple but impactful tips, especially using pieces they already have in their closet.
